You dream it, we'll build it.
We enjoy designing, engineering, and woodworking with a little bit of sculpture mixed in. As long as the project is designed to bring people together to engage in amusing shenanigans, we are all for it.
Chris' Early '58 Surf Rat Bus
Chris is building a 1958 Combi. The outside will be all rat rod, the inside a custom surf camper
Chris owns a early 1958 VW Bus that is under construction. He is rebuilding it from the bottom up. As he starts work on the body he asked Hammer and Saw to take on the interior. The bus will have a rat rod style on the outside and a surfing theme on the inside.

We wanted to keep some of the old and add a bunch of new. The floor is reclaimed redwood from a 1907 San Francisco house. The back bench / bed is Maple laminate with custom built wood hedges that folds out into a twin size bed. The front bench seat is Maple laminate with Mahogany trim. One half is dry storage and the other is a 56 quart insulated cooler with a pull chain plug and drain through the bottom of the bus. The surf board theme table features a in-laid purple-heart VW logo, a mahogany shelf, and when extended a bamboo leg. The Skiskate shelf can be removed and used as an escape pod when the bus breaks down. The panels are covered in burlap with coffee inspired custom screen prints. The 1950's soda crates make a great spice holder and magazine rack. They can also be used as shelves for your favorite beverage. The project would not be complete without a custom Road Trip'n board game with hand carved air-cooled VW's and a custom rack to display when not being enjoyed. The owner, Chris, is still working on the seat cushions. Once installed this Surf Rat Bus is ready for a true surfing safari! |
The Ben-ecia Project
A friend named Ben had a vision. Ben built bridges and he liked to play foosball.

As the shop was still being put together we needed a good test project to make sure we had everything needed and the shop had a good work flow. A buddy of mine had a old beat up foosball table he bought on the cheap and was trying to fix up. Ben has built several bridges over the years, the Benicia Bridge in San Francisco being one of them. He wanted to make a salute to his trade...Something big, solid, and sturdy with a hint of Man Bling. As we talked through it, I could see where he was going. Here is his vision.
Mom's Table Ben's wife, Brandy, had a birthday shortly after we finished the table. They had rearranged the family room to display the new foosball table. The sectional was cozy, but it needed a table in the corner. It had to complement the foosball table, but it needed a style. The leg and supports are mini versions of the Ben-ecia. The in-house molding was made thick and oversized. A aged look was added through layers of stain. The table height custom to a comfortable hand resting around a tasty beverage while sitting on the soft seat. The shelf height custom to the SF Giants memorabilia to be displayed under the Giants lamp that determined the width of the shelf. Not bad for a spare parts table... But shhh don't tell Brandy that... |
